Funeral Cost

Few months ago we had a patient who died with sepsis. He was new to Oz. Supposed to be he and his family are going to migrate here for change of placement for his job from India. He was an Englishman and from UK originally. He was on his forties and his three kids are less than 15 years old. He was in ICU for more than a month suffered and did not survive. Wife was around most of the time while kids were in India to attend school. The patient was well paid with his job. But then if they will pay the hospital bill I think they will have difficulty because hospitalization here in Oz is so expensive unlike in UK that everything is free. Good thing the company paid for everything even the funeral cost. It was sad. All the kids arrived on his last day and you can see how they were affected :-(

Useless Doctor

I was so mad at the Doctor that was on last night. She started at 7pm and she will be doing 12 hours. But in my 12 and a half hour shift in the hospital I did not noticed her even once. She did not even assist or examined the patient one by one. Last week as well when she was on she did the same thing. Does she know she is in ICU? I told the nurse in charge and she said hat the Doctor assumed that all the patient are OK. How about if it's not? And somebody will arrest? Bad! I think she went to the hospital to sleep while earning a whooping $100 per hour!

Never Underestimate

Few nights ago when me and my Filipino friend were working together we were talking about the agency nurse behind her back while I am browsing online the best acne treatments. We mentioned how fat she was (she was about 150-200 kilos) and how it is affecting her nursing job. She had difficulty in doing her bedside nursing because her tummy was so big. Anyway, we were having fun and laughing about her. Then after few days my other Filipino colleague told us that; "You know what? The agency nurse that you were having fun can understand Filipino because her husband is a Filipino. And she can talk tagalog and Bisaya because she lived in Davao for years. " Now we learned our lesson. Yay!

Mr. Jason Bourne

Few days ago I had a patient who looks like Jason Bourne. Do you know him? Have you watched Bourne Identity? But I think he was better. He was younger (24 years of age), he was taller (6'5'' in height) and he had 6 packs (I'm sure he doesn't need weightloss products with his toned body). He was good looking too. He arrived ventilated and sedated that is why I had a good examination on his body. LOL. He is an army and supposed to be going to Afghanistan but because of his heart murmur that was noticed during medical examination he had to be referred and undergo heart surgery. I don't know what's better? To go to Afghanistan and fight and may end up dead or to have a heart surgery. What do you think?

Sun Where Are You?

Summer is almost over. Not that I am worried but because I noticed it when I was on night shift. Looking outside at 5 AM from the hospital blinds I was wandering where the sun was. Because when I look outside it was still dark and no sign of sun coming up. Then finally the sun shines at around 6 AM. I am not affected because the sun shines everyday here in Oz it's just that it is nice to wash patient when it is bright outside. Also it wakes us up nurses :)

I Need Help

I don't use eye cream but being awake at 12 midday after my 3 night shifts, right now I need the best eye creams. I can see the dark circles around my eyes already. It is a sign of aging? Waaaaaa! Now it's making me depressed more. Imagine? Me being fat, tanned with dark circles around my eyes? Huhuhu, what did I do to deserve this? I need help everybody!

I Want Another Challenge

As what I posted before I want to be an ambulance crew. I think it is full of adventure type of job because you don't know what you expect everyday. Do you think I can handle this? I need to assess my self very well if I am ready for this type of job. But if I will not do it now? When is it going to happen? I am not getting any younger at all.

Planning to Change My Nursing Path

I need to prepare resumes because I am planning to change my nursing path. Been doing ICU for 8 years and right now I don't find it challenging anymore. Or maybe it's just the unit that I am now. So what I am going to do? I am planning to apply as an ambulance crew or maybe transfer to a big general ICU. I am planning to do it maybe end this year or early next year. I bet ambulance crew is cool. And one of my friend said that their salary is much higher than hospital post. Let's see what will happen...

Finally I'm Off

After 5 days straight at work finally I'm off. I did 2 days and 3 nights in a row, a total of 56 hours. And in between of that we went out shopping and to a theme park. No wonder I am tired and my adult acne is showing up! But how come I am still awake after my last night shift? Well, I am waiting for my friend's call because we are going out. To celebrate our off we will dine out in Nando's and maybe do a little bit of shopping. LOL.

Motorcycle Accident Lawyer

My husband wanted a motorcycle badly. He said that by going to work in a motorcycle he will save a lot of money since our car got a 3.8 engine. But I said no, period! How many patients did I encounter with road traffic accident involving motorcycle? Most of them died and if not they will end up like a vegetable. Where they can only move their head and nothing else. Would you like that? Motorcycle is very dangerous and to everybody out there who wanted one. How about looking for motorcycle accident lawyer now? I hope hubby read this one and understand why I don't want a motorcycle.

A Yucky Post

The Nurse can I promise! Any type of poo we can manage yellow, orange, greenish, black, green and so on. Name it I seen a lot of color and type of poo. Yucky but it is a part of our job. I don't blame why my 2 girls doesn't want to be a nurse like me. Anyway, last night the color was yellow with some shade of orange. I don't mind if it happens once or twice a shift. But if it continues it will give me headache. And it did. It was dirty, very smelly and gross. On top of that the patient has Clostridium difficile which is a bacterium that causes diarrhea and more serious intestinal conditions such as colitis. That is why even I did not have any sleep from a night shift I went straight to the shower.

Never Judge The Book By It's Cover

I had a patient last night who was very dirty and smelly so I gave him a good scrub. If I didn't know his history I will assume that he is a street guy. But mind you he is a lawyer with PHD and currently teaching in a big university here and also he go around Australia to do a lecture every now and then. Upon talking to him I knew he is special because he doesn't have any eye to eye contact and yes he is. He suffers with autism with obsessive compulsive and depression. He is an amazing guy even with his illness! He said to me he loves to learn all the time and right now what he specialize are corporate law, business law, bankruptcy law and so on. He even knew about the best term life quotes. I just hope he will get well soon and hopefully he will take a shower everyday (he was that bad) LOL. Kidding aside he was magnificent.

Call Of Duty

Nurse has been busy again as usual. Supposedly I was on 12 hours night shift but then the nurse in charge during the day called me in the morning and made me on call because there were only 3 patients left in ICU. So I assume I will not be called. So went to the Vietnamese market, surf the net for hours then went to my friend's apartment and went swimming. But they called me in at 05:40 pm and told me that I need to come in to work at the start at the shift which is 06:45. I was already tired but what can I do? It is a call of duty.

PS I had fun looking at my colleague pictures on her laptops I mean laptop last night. She showed me her pictures when they went to a private island on New Years day.
