Since I started here in Oz I haven't encountered patient with drug overdose. I think it is not so common here. Back in UK when I was there we always have admission of drug overdose especially during winter. Does the weather affect the people? I'm not sure. Anyway, I encountered a lot of interesting cases of suicide over in UK like a patient who decide to turn off his ventilator because he want to die, patient who was admitted with hanging face because he shot it with shot gun, a patient who ate sand with pebbles and ended up dead, 2 patients took the tablets at the same time and so on. Or maybe the reason English people are madder than Australians? Peace :-)

The Nurse Needs...
Before I transferred here in Oz I was thinking that over here I will loss some weight. I was imagining the good weather and I can do whatever I want anytime (because it's always warm) like jogging, walking, outdoor swimming, playing with kids at the park and so on. And yes I can do all of that but to make the story short I am not losing weight, instead I am gaining weight. And you know what? I am not comfortable with myself anymore because I am big and I think I really need a fast weight loss pills now!

Sleepy Head
We used military time in charting. Can you believe one of my colleague wrote 24:00 for midnight then 25:00, 26:00, 27:00 and so on. That's what you get on night shift - "sleepy head". The worst thing happened? The one who relieved him on his break wrote the time continuously like 29:00. Hahaha.
No Sleep
I requested to have a day off yesterday because it was my kids first day of school. Just finished my night shift in the morning and brought them to school at 8:30. Their school starts at 8:50 and finishes at 3 pm. I had a lot of time to sleep but I did not managed. I think I did, maybe half an hour? Good thing is even though I don't get a lot of sleep I don't get any acne. Thanks to my good genes or else I will need an acne solution. Anyway, the reason why I did not get any sleep is that I was so worried with my little boy. I was having a separation anxiety :(
On Night Tonight
It's already half past two and in 4 and a half hours I will be going to work for a night shift. I want to go to sleep but I can't. Me and my kids are waiting for my hubby so that we can go to Chinatown and have their hair cut. School will be on Wednesday. I need to do 2 nights and then off for 2 days afterwards. Before 12 hours night shift I always make sure that I have a nap even for one hour if not more or else I will be sleepy the whole shift. If only I know the most successful home based business I will be stay at home mum.
Well Landed
I was on the ward yeterday and met a patient who jumped out in the building (3rd floor) and landed on her foot. Lucky her she only fractured her tibula. What was she thinking?
Off Again
Yehey!!! I wasn't called last night. Even if I was I don't think I will be able t wake up because my legs hurt so bad. No I don't have arthritis and I don't need arthritis relief. It just that I did not had any sleep at all from a night shift. And now I'm off for another 3 days I mean another 2 because it is already night time here. Today me and hubby went on a date. Yes a date. Read my other blog and check where we went :-)
No Admission Please!
So OK I am tired but then I only managed to have half an hour sleep after my night shift and as I said om my last post that I am on call tonight. I hope there will be no admission so that I will not be called. So where did we go? Me and my family and my two other friends went fishing on a lake. A total of five hours! And we did not get anything - nothing,nada, zero!!! Well I did enjoy the scenery over there. It was so relaxing and the breeze is so cool. Nice to escape the heat of the city. But then because we did not get anything for our dinner we had KFC. So anybody out there if you know the weight loss pills please do tell me because right now I feel so big.
Tired Nurse
I finished my second night and I will be on call tonight because there's not a lot of patient. So maybe we will go out as a family. But don't know if I can stand the heat outside because it is so hot, 31c today but better than 36c the other day. We only had 5 patients overnight. I had 2 patients as so the other nurse and the other one had one patient and the remaining one is in charge. We were not so busy overnight but still I feel so tired. Don't know why. I was so quiet last night because I don't feel right at all. I was tired. Even when my colleague discussed to me how much is the difference of car prices here and UK she did not get a lot of information from me. Bad me.
Nee To Go Back To Work
I am not looking forward of my shift tomorrow. After my 5 days off I don't want to go back anymore. But there's nothing I can do unless I will win the lotto which I don't have a chance since I did not bet recently ;) Anyway, I will be on night shift tomorrow. I don't mind night but I need to do 3 nights!!! Waaaa! It will be a long long time from now.
No More Sleepless Day
All my kids will be in school in one week time. It's good because I can sleep without noise after my night shift. The problem is, I am used to have my son all the time with me. He always let me slept while playing with his DSI and then leaves me when his Dad arrived. I'm sure I will miss him so much. Not that I don't see him after his school. But it will not be the same. Unless I will have another baby which will NOT happen anymore. lol.
Anyway, do you know anything about LSAT prep courses? Because my colleague asked about it and I don't have any idea what is it.
Night Shift
I do mostly night shift. It suits to my lifestyle and hubby's work. But sometimes there's a time that I cannot sleep during the day and to stay awake at night time is a very hard thing to do. Caffeine helps and an hour nap time breaks. So I make sure that I sleep at least 45 minutes of my break to recharge myself. Yes nurse indeed is not an easy job. As a nurse in ICU, I need to be attentive all the time and 100% focus to the patient eventhough I am sleepy. At least at night shift patient doesn't ask me where their loose diamonds is because we turn off the light and the unit is dark.

I always do overtime or extra shift so refusing one is a very hard decision especially that I did not had any for 3 weeks now. Oh well I will just make it up next time. So why did I refused? It's my girls party tomorrow. Natalie turned 11 last Sunday and Nicole will be 9 this coming Sunday. But since hubby is working on Monday we will have their celebration tomorrow. And because we are in Oz. We will have the party in Oz way... at the park!
Issue About Hospital Sinks
Let's talk about sinks. So why did I come up with this? I remember when I was a staff nurse in Philippines we only have one sink for nurses which is located inside the nurses station. So bad. Cleanliness and sterility is not the priority of government official so that is why it's happening in public hospital in Philippines. When I was there I bring my own alcohol to keep my hand clean all the time. Being in abroad sinks is all over the ward. It is everywhere where nurses and other medical staff can clean their hands all the time. I don't know how will the hospital improve in my country if the leaders are not helping them. So sad....
A Gift From My Secret Santa
I received a Victoria Beckham perfume and a lotion from my secret Santa last month. Not my type of scent... I'm not complaining I'm just being true to myself. I'm still thankful of course that my secret santa gave me this one. So, what did I gave to my manita? A Cool Water Davidoff perfume. I hope she doesn't mind.

Still Around
So what is the nurse up to now? Yes I'm still here but with less work :-) For 2 weeks I only have 3 days shift. One last week and two this week. No extra shift for me this time because there is not a lot of patient in the hospital where I work. The reason? It is school holiday and doctors including patients are on holiday. Not to forget the nurses too are on holiday. I think for this reason it will not be difficult to ask for a six weeks holiday for this coming Christmas and New Year. If this will happen it will be my first time in 10 years to go home at Christmas time. I cannot wait til the time comes.
At Work
Hi ya folks. Guess where I am now? Yes I am at work. Actually I am on my break. Having a rest from my patient who keeps groaning all the time. Imagine yourself being in isolation room and all you can hear is a man's groan? Not easy!!! Don't know what's the matter with him. He is very drowsy and cannot communicate with me. So I assumed that he's got pain. Pain killer given and it doesn't work. It is hard to think that after an hour break I need to return and hear his groan again. Urgh! For now need to look at baby strollers online that is affordable for my friend who will give birth soon. Good luck to me!
Busy?
What I am doing right now? Obviously I am writing a post here on my blog about mortgage life insurance :) Anyway, in 10 minutes time I will be heading off to work for a 12 hours night shift. Hopefully there will be patients so that I will not be transferred to the ward. Our unit lately don't have a lot of surgeries because of the holiday season. Most surgeon are away so patients are away too. LOL. Got to go now or else I will be late.
