If you are not from UK and somebody will tell you they want to spend their penny, what will you think?
We had our unit Christmas lunch party today and one of my Filipino colleague shared her story. She worked in a nursing home before and one resident was screaming; " I want to spend a penny!" She answered back; "You don't need to because your room is fully paid." Of course the old woman did not understand at all. They need to get another English colleague to interpret. What it means is the old lady want to use the toilet.
